What sets your APR
APR is the yearly cost of the loan, including interest and any lender fees that federal law requires to be counted. Lenders base it on your credit history, income, debts, the amount and term you choose and the rules in your state. Federal Truth in Lending rules require the lender to show the APR, finance charge, amount financed and total of payments before you sign.
Late payments
Each lender has its own late-payment policy within what your state allows. A late fee, if any, is listed in the loan agreement. Paying late can also be reported to credit bureaus. If you know a payment will be a problem, call the lender before the due date; many have hardship or due-date-change options.
If you stop paying
Missed payments may lead to added fees allowed by law, collection activity under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and negative credit reporting that can lower your score for years. Loans in this network are generally unsecured, but the lender can still pursue the debt through lawful means.
State availability
Lenders only lend where they are licensed or otherwise permitted, and caps on APR and loan size vary by state. If no lender serves your state, you will not be matched.
